  • Congregational United Church of Christ 217 Crossman Avenue Buena Vista, CO, 81211 United States (map)

Trek for change – beginning on his 20th birthday Sunil Tamang roamed solo across Nepal’s Himalaya, walking for 128 days from east Nepal’s Kanchenjunga region, to Rara Lake in the west.  He will share stories and photos from this trek. In addition, Sunil will also share his experience helping to rebuild the village of Syaphru Bensi after the 2015 earthquake.

Sunil Tamang is a native to Rasuwa, Nepal, a district in the lap of Himalaya. He spent most of his childhood in the village of Syaphru Bensi, with a hardworking family. His opportunity for an education came from a stranger, Andrew Haxby, who offered to help him with his education. He and his mother, Barbara Haxby Brady, arranged for his studies. Currently, Sunil is an undergraduate (2012-2015) student of Environment Management at School of Environment Science and Management (SchEMS) affiliated to Pokhara University.
